Cassandra Jeanette Townsend

Listen to Obituary

Cassandra Jeanette Townsend, 70, departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on Friday, July 17, 2026, after a brief illness. She was born February 5, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Willie and Florine Townsend.

She grew up in Lorain, Ohio, and graduated from Admiral King High School in 1974. She had a lengthy career with Ford Motor Company, starting her employment at the Lorain Assembly Plant and transferring to the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, where she retired after more than 30 years with the automaker.

Cassandra’s sophisticated presence and sweet spirit were an instant draw, allowing her to create deep and meaningful connections. She enjoyed traveling, walking for fitness, and spending time with her family. A true foodie, Cassandra loved trying new restaurants. She cherished time at church and listening to gospel music, and was a dedicated member of Canaan Christian Church in Louisville, KY under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Walter Malone Jr.

Cassandra’s family meant everything to her. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her loved ones affectionately nicknamed her “Bird” in childhood, a name that stuck throughout her life. With her vibrant and adventurous soul, we take comfort knowing she is now joyously flying free from all pain and sorrow.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Derrick Townsend of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Daekwon and DeAsia Townsend; sisters, Princella Townsend and Linda Kay (Namon M.) Tarpley of Lorain, OH; brothers, Floyd (Valorie) Townsend of South Euclid, OH, and Willie “Sweet” Townsel Sr. of Detroit, MI; along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Cassandra was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Florine Townsend; brothers, Lynn Jay Townsend, Gordon Townsend, and Charles Woods; and sisters, Freddi J. Townsend, Emma Lenton, and Alnetta Crosby.

The family will receive visitors at Brown Robinson Funeral Home and Celebration Center, 6075 Middle Ridge Rd., Lorain, OH 44053, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM, with the Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 AM.
