Charles James Edward Compas departed this life on August 28th, 2025. He was the son of Andrew and Lucy Compas.
Charles was the youngest of nine children. He was born on August 19, 1929, in Irwin Pennsylvania where he grew up and attended school through the eighth grade. Charles had small jobs for many years in Jeannette as a building contractor. He then decided to join the United States Army and served for six years. Upon returning home, he worked in various jobs—working in construction and later at Jeannette Glass and Paper Craft, and Beverly Cook Hauling Service.
In 1967, Charles met Carrie McWhite of Lorain, Ohio. They were married and decided to move from Pennsylvania to Lorain, Ohio. He became employed at Ford Motor Company where he worked for 24 years. During that time, he and Carrie became parents of two beautiful children, Charles Eric and Camille Diane. In 1990, Charles accepted the Lord as his savior and soon became a deacon. He worked faithfully until poor health constrained him. He provided well for his family and enjoyed life. He was well-liked by fellow workers and church friends.
Charles leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 58 years; one daughter, Camille (Richard) Hagwood; 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Courtney, India, Grant, Xavier, and Sheina; 11 great grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 nephews; also, a host of cousins and many, many friends.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM at New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 2340 Crehore St, Lorain OH 44052. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, Ohio.
