DaJuanny “Juan” Shawn Taylor, 53, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, following a brief illness. Juan was born in Detroit, Michigan to Ricky Earl and Gwendolyn Taylor (née Cato) on January 31, 1972. Juan also spent many summers with his grandmother, Penny Cato in Lorain, Ohio during his childhood days. Juan made his home in Lorain in 2012 when he married his childhood crush, Tiwauna.
He attended Redford High School and graduated in 1990. Upon graduation, Juan attended college. As a person that always wanted to learn, Juan was eager to master as much as he could. A lot of his learning was self-taught. In 2000, Juan started the RushingWind MultiGroup, LLC. where he served as the director, producer and videographer. In 2005 he created the Music Brokers, LLC, working as a sound engineer and producer. Some of Juan's previous jobs included housing management, teaching, landscaping, and much more. In his spare time, he also liked to do a little tinkering in building things. His most recent employer was the Neighborhood Alliance Association, where he served as a Case Manager, and was greatly admired by the staff and residents.
Juan was a former member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Lorain where he served on the Deacon Board. He was also a member of the choir where he played the piano. As a faithful servant, he also taught Vacation Bible School, managed sound and video production, lead the Saturday morning basketball and computer classes for the local youths, started the Tuesday Men's Group, along with producing and directing plays for the youth with his wife and sister-in-law, as he loved working with children.
Juan is survived by his wife of 13 years, Tiwauna Taylor (née Daniels), Lorain; his son, Dartanian Taylor, Detroit; stepsons Taiwan, Tre'Von and Te'Von Jackson, Lorain; brother, Cordney Taylor, Detroit; sister-in-law, Saundra Daniels, his nieces and nephews Cordney Taylor Jr., Penny Taylor, Asyuanni Taylor, Maya Taylor, Joelle Taylor, Carman Taylor, and Austin J. Johnson; uncles Carlos, Raynard, Randy Cato, and Dave Patton; aunts Jacqueline Cato and Carmatatta Patton; favorite cousin, Justn Cato, Detroit; mother figure, Patricia Davis, Detroit; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricky Earl and Gwendolyn Taylor; grandparents, LeRoy and Penny Cato; mother-in-law, Patricia Bullock; brothers-in-law, Stanley Daniels and Darrell Bullock; and uncles, Byron and LeWayne Cato.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 30, 2026, from 11 AM until time of service at 12 PM at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1516 E. 30th St., Lorain OH 44055.
