Debbie Yvonne Shumpert passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, following a short illness at Novant Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Debbie was born April 15, 1958, in Lorain, Ohio, where she attended Admiral King High School. She later pursued her love for children by earning a degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked for Lorain County Head Start before becoming an entrepreneur and opening her in-home daycare, Debi’s Lil Angels. Debbie was deeply passionate about nurturing and shaping young lives, and she cared for every child as if they were her own.
In addition to her love for children, Debbie had a strong passion for fashion and creativity. From the beautiful décor in her home to her unique personal style, her creativity was evident in all she did. She pursued her dream of cosmetology, graduating from the Lorain Institute of Cosmetology, and went on to work at DJ’s Beauty Salon alongside her dear friend. Through her work, she helped many women embrace their beauty and confidence.
Above all, Debbie’s greatest passion was her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She devoted herself to intercession, prayer, and faithful service to the Kingdom of God. Her love for the Lord was the foundation of her life, and she blessed every space she entered with grace, warmth, and unwavering faith.
Debbie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Billy Shumpert Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; her daughter, Alisa Shumpert of Charlotte, North Carolina; and her son, Darrell Shumpert Sr. (Bonita) of North Ridgeville, Ohio. She also leaves six beloved grandchildren: Officer Adrian Church of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Serenity Butler of Charlotte, North Carolina; Private First Class Kendall James Butler of Fort Benning, Georgia; Kennedy Butler of Charlotte, North Carolina; Darrell Shumpert Jr. of North Ridgeville, Ohio; and Donovan Shumpert of North Ridgeville, Ohio.
She is also survived by her sister, Kim Martindale of Decatur, Alabama; her brother, Kirk (Stephanie) Martindale of Decatur, Alabama; and her sister, Sandra Lyons of Lorain, Ohio and a host of God children, friends, and family
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edith Martindale; her brother, Raymond Martindale; her great-grandmother, Susie Aaron; her grandmother, Mary Coleman; her brother-in-law, Judson Lyons; her aunt, Velma Price; and her grandparents, Cesar and Ora Lee Martindale.
“To our mother, our nanny, our wife, our friend, our godmother, our teacher, our aunt, and our prayer warrior — you were a gift beyond measure. Your love was steady, your wisdom was guiding, and your prayers covered us all. You nurtured, you taught, you encouraged, and you believed in us even when we struggled to believe in ourselves”.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Homegoing Celebration service beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Faith Ministries Christian Center, 1306 Euclid Ave., Lorain, OH 44052. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
