Dempsey Hogan, 97, of Lorain, Ohio, departed this life Sunday, November 8th, 2025, after a short hospice care at Main Street Care Center-Sprenger Health Care Towne Center Community Campus in Avon Lake, Ohio. He was born July 6, 1928, in Junction City, Arkansas.

Dempsey was a Mason and a very proud U.S. Korean War veteran with active service duty in South Korea, China and Japan. He transferred his military experience and expertise to become a Lorain County Deputy Sheriff for 30 years.

Dempsey, the sixth of seven children, graduated from Junction City High School. After graduation he earned several certifications related to his fields of employment, interests and aspirations. Dempsey worked hard while combining those skills with his love of travel, bowling competitions, shooting pool, fishing, reading the local newspapers and family gatherings across the country.

Dempsey’s motto was “Family First. He never met a stranger, and he enjoyed special relationships with his sons, grandchildren, great-grands, great-great grandchildren and his many favored nieces and nephews. They knew they were all his “favorite”!

He gave his life to Christ at a young age in Arkansas, at Caledonia Baptist Church. He was a faithful and ever-present serving member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Elyria, Ohio. In more recent years you could find him reading the Bible, enjoying audio and video sermons and gospel music.

Of all his accomplishments, what gave Dempsey his greatest sense of pride was being a warm-hearted, loving and adoring husband to Betty (Moore) of more than seventy years; father and father-figure to his sons, grands, siblings and his ever-growing extended family.

In addition to his loving and devoted wife, Betty Ruth (Moore), he leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Keith Lance (Telva) Hogan, granddaughters, Tasha Hogan (Cedric) Lovejoy, Kiauna Hogan, Destiny Hogan and Kyra Hogan (Carleton) Rivers and grandson, Tyler Pope (Loren) Hogan, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shedrick and Hattie (Rogers) Hogan, paternal grandparents, Sandie and Martha (Kelly) Hogan; maternal grandparents, Lyde and Katie (Wright) Rogers; sons, Dennis Craig, Barry Donald and Kevin Daune Hogan; sisters, Christine Hogan, Johnnie B. Land and Irene Davis Robertson; brothers, Miles C. Teelfatha, Thedres and O.D. Hogan.
