Denise “Niecy” Brantford, 69, of Lorain, Ohio, departed this earthly life peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 22, 1956, in Lorain, Ohio, Denise was the beloved daughter of Mary “Louise” Lighty and Jake Lighty Sr. She was a lifelong resident of Lorain, where she built a life filled with love, faith, and family. Denise now rejoices in eternal rest, reunited with her parents and siblings in heaven.
Denise accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a devoted member of Grace Community Church. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her illness, a true testament to her strength and devotion.
A proud Cleveland sports fan, Denise loved cheering on her Browns and Cavaliers. She also enjoyed quiet moments working on Sudoku puzzles, a pastime that reflected her patience and thoughtful spirit.
Denise’s greatest joy, however, came from her family. She leaves to cherish her memory three children: Michelle Ray of Lorain, Derrick “Peanut” Ray of Lorain, and Charles “Shubby” Ray of Columbus, Ohio; her adopted daughter, Iris Shaw of Lorain; two sisters, Darlene Lighty of Lorain and Zelma Johnson of Cleveland; two brothers, Kevin (Mary) Miller of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Butch (Rose) Miller of Springfield, Missouri; Step-brothers, David C. Burke and Earnest G. Burke of Lorain, and Leon T. Mason of Colorado; Step-Sister, Bridgett Burke of Colorado; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Brantford; her parents, Mary “Louise” Lighty and Jake Lighty Sr.; her brothers, Jake Lighty Jr., James “Governor” Lighty, and David Lighty; and her sisters, Shirley A. Lighty and Deborah “Debbie” A. Lighty.
Denise will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. Her radiant heart, unwavering faith, and boundless love will live on through the lives of those she touched. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to her family and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025 from 10AM until time of service at 11AM at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home and Celebration Center, 6075 Middle Ridge Road, Lorain OH 44053. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
