Franklin Payne

Franklin Payne, 77, of Oberlin, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023 in Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. Franklin was born December 24, 1945 in Oberlin, Ohio where he was a life-long resident.

After attending Oberlin High School, Franklin enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1971-1973. He retired from York International as a machinist.

He enjoyed shooting pool, throwing darts, spending time with his grandchildren and family, traveling and going to the Kentucky Derby. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns.

Franklin is survived by two children, Jill (LaGear) White and Jeffrey Payne; 10 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Moon, and a brother, Albert Payne.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Sutton, his parents, John and Frances Sutton. His brother, David, passed away 11 days after him.

A memorial dinner celebration will be held from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at First Church, 106 North Main Street, Oberlin.
