Ival Angel, 87, of Elyria, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family, Monday, May 4, 2026.
Ival Angel was born August 9, 1938, the second child of Edward S. Angel, Sr. and Inez Angel. He was raised in a loving home alongside his siblings under the care and guidance of his mother, Inez and stepfather, Samuel Mitchell. He received his education through the Cincinnati Public Schools and proudly graduated from Taft High School.
In 1967, Ival relocated to Elyria, Ohio, where he established a home and devoted his life to family, faith, and service. Known for his strong work ethic and quiet dedication, he worked for more than 30 years at the Lorain County Ford Motor Plant in the paint department. Even after retirement, his knowledge and expertise were highly valued, leading him to return to Ford for additional time as a consultant.
During his career, Ival developed lifelong friendships that introduced him to Prince Hall Freemasonry, an organization that became central to his life's work and service. On October 31, 1981, he was initiated into Buckeye Lodge No. 68 in Lorain, Ohio. From that day forward, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the principles of brotherhood, charity, and service.
Ival was widely known and deeply respected for his gift of photography. Rarely seen without his cameras, he faithfully documented Masonic events throughout Ohio and across the United States. His photographic skills preserved cherished memories and historic moments for generations to come.
His love for travel allowed him to build friendships from around the world while representing his organizations with pride and dignity. Throughout his Masonic journey, Ival received numerous awards and recognition honoring his faithful service. He served as Worshipful Master of Buckeye Lodge No. 68 and as Illustrious Potentate of El Hasa Temple No. 28. One of his greatest honors was his elevation to Sovereign Grand Inspector General of the 33rd degree.
Ival was preceded in death by his parents, Edward S. Angel, Sr., and Samuel and Inez Mitchell; his brother, Edward S. Angel, Jr.; and his sister, Joan Angel Stark.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Lori Palmer Bivens Angel; his children, Anita D. Robinson, Ival Angel, Jr., Alexis Angel, Lisha Lungelow, and Diano Angel; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear and devoted friends.
His legacy of service, brotherhood, and love will continue to live on in all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home and Celebration Center, 6075 Middle Ridge Road, Lorain Ohio 44053, where Masonic Services will be performed.
