John Castañeda, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026. He was born on April 16, 1932, in Fremont, Ohio, to John Joseph Castañeda, Sr. and Martha Castañeda, who preceded him in death.

John was also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia; his brother, Raymond; his son, Ramon; and his beloved wife, Frances Onell Castañeda.

A devoted father and man of faith, John built a life rooted in service, creativity, and love for family and community. He was the proud father of ten children, including his oldest daughter, Debra Gaines, from a previous marriage, and nine children whom he raised with his beloved wife, Frances Onell: John (Janet), Darcel, Ramon (deceased), Mario (Arlene), Francine, Andre, Rodne, Raphael (Kim), and Thaddaeus (Deann). Together, John and Frances built the family home, a labor of love that became the foundation for their family’s life, faith, and memories.

John was a skilled carpenter and was blessed with remarkable artistic talent and a strong work ethic. He was also instrumental in helping build the girls’ dormitory at Pine Forge Academy in Pine Forge, Pennsylvania, leaving a lasting contribution to the school community and reflecting his commitment to education and service.

Music was a central part of John’s ministry and life. Alongside his wife Frances Onell, he co-founded the singing group The Evangelaires. A gifted and versatile vocalist, John sang tenor, baritone, and bass, using music to uplift, inspire, and glorify God wherever he went.

Affectionately known as “Papi” by his family, John’s legacy lives on through his children and a host of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each a testament to the life, values, and devotion he poured into his family. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his unwavering faith, his love of music, his craftsmanship, and the enduring impact of a life well lived.
