John 'Ham Sandwich' Ewing

John Ewing, 60, was born to William Ewing and Lumetra (née Wilmington) on July 15, 1963, and was a life-long resident of Lorain. He made his transition on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at University Hospital in Elyria.

John was affectionately known as “Ham Sandwich.” He was educated in the Clearview School System. He was employed by The Lorain Palace Theater and Lorain Products. He had a great love for his family. He was often caught laughing and at times threw out a crack or two with his raspy, growling voice. He did not mind lending a helping hand to his family and friends. He loved Lorain, especially his “Campito” family. He had a great love for music and movies and loved hats and washing his car. John was also noted for his barbeque.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 8 years, Vickie Ewing (née Carlton) but actual shared 42 years of love, two sons: John Carlton and Joseph Carlton, four grandchildren: Alexis Carlton, Arianna Carlton, Desiree Schafer, and Terrance Harper, two great grandchildren: Elena Polanco-Carlton and Amira Carlton, one brother, Willie Ewing of Lorain, and one sister, Maryann Lucas-Carter of Saginaw, Michigan and a host of other family and friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents William Ewing and Lumetra (nee Wilmington), six siblings: Glen Ewing, James Fultz, Sarah Dower, Emma Willis, Lorena Ewing-Brown, and Alice Goines.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 10 a.m. until time of the celebration of life service at 11 a.m. at New Life Deliverance Ministries, 400 Washington Ave, Lorain. Dr. Lisa Hunter of Total Life Ministries of Columbus, Ohio will be the eulogist.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
