Our Beloved Johnny Lee Alston Jr, 71, of Lorain, Ohio, was called to be with our Lord July 19th, 2025, peacefully at home, surrounded by family and loved ones after a lengthy illness.
Johnny “Kang” Alston Jr. was born September 3rd, 1953, to Johnny Lee Alston Sr. and Jane (Ezell) Alston and raised in Choctaw, Alabama. Growing up, Johnny worked as a pulp driver, and in many other positions, to provide for his family.
When Johnny was 18, he decided to join the U.S Army, where he served as a wireman and received his G.E.D. He was honorably discharged after 2 years. Johnny met the love of his life and mother of his children Annie Chaney (Alston) shortly after being discharged from the army and later relocated to Ohio. After moving to Ohio, Johnny worked at K&T Switching and Trucking Co. for 30 years before he retired.
Johnny truly enjoyed being productive and busy. Even after retiring, he still went on to work in a healthcare facility, The Nord Center and even started his own lawn care business! The JACK of all trades is truly an understatement. (Master of none if you ask him though).
Some of Johnny’s hobbies included (but not limited to) fishing, grilling, cooking, gardening and always speaking the real deal. He enjoyed life and wished nothing more but for all of his loved ones to do the same. He will be truly, truly missed.
Johnny leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings, Juanita Harris of Louisville, KY, Mattie Lee Capers and Vicki James of Ward, AL and John Henry Chess of Talladega, Al.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents Johnny Lee Alston Sr. and Jane (Ezell) Alston, his wife Annie R. Alston (Chaney); a brother, Gregory Alston; and sisters, Brenda Jenkins, Annie Murl Hubbert and Cynthia Alston. Johnny will also be missed by his children Joann Chaney, Brenda Chaney, Robin Chaney, Sheakym Chaney, Candace (Jordan) Davenport, and Johnny Lee Alston III, all of Lorain, Ohio, his grandchildren, Ke’yona (James), Jamel , Jamal, Lashawn, Ty’shae, Isaiah, Ke’Ayshia, Chakiya, Syrus, Sylis, Lavelle, Anthony, Marcus Jr, Tre’Sean, Rashad and Jakari, and his 9 great-grandchildren, also all of Lorain, Ohio.
Johnny was a true soldier in every sense of the word and will be truly missed
Visitation for Johnny will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, beginning at 10 AM followed by his funeral service at 11 AM at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3900 Clifton Ave, Lorain OH 44055.
