Leslie Leon Hendon, also known as “Les”, departed this life on May 16, 2026, at the age of 64. He was born on September 5, 1961, in Ohio to Milton Hendon and Evelyn Hendon Ellis.
Leslie was a proud resident of Elyria, Ohio, and a man whose presence could never go unnoticed. He loved talking, laughing, joking, and bringing energy wherever he went. If you knew Les, you likely heard his famous phrase, “What’s the low down?” — a saying that reflected his outgoing spirit, sense of humor, and love for connecting with people everywhere he went.
“This Is My Journey” was more than just a phrase to Les — it was the title of a book he began writing, inspired by his life experiences, faith, strength, and unforgettable personality.
Antiques were Les’s specialty, which fueled his passion for auctions, and trading at flea markets throughout Ohio and neighboring states. He loved dancing, sports cars, football, DJ-ing, and playing the drums. He was an avid golf pro, who enjoyed teaching others the game he loved. Les also worked many years as a heavy press operator, from 1996 until his retirement in 2022. Trimline being the last company where he proudly worked before retiring.
His children and grandchildren meant the world to him. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Raven Hendon and Devon Hendon; his cherished grandson, Devon “Von” Hendon Jr.; two extended grandchildren who lovingly called him Grandpa; his sister, Valerie Hendon; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and dear friends.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Hendon and Evelyn Hendon-Ellis; his maternal grandparents, Myrella and Walter Christmon; his paternal grandparents, James Hendon and Anna Lee Hendon-Scott; his sister, Gloria Tate; his brothers John “Bobby” Tate, Joseph “Jack” Tate, and Walter Tate; along with other family members who welcomed him in his home going.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at noon. Services will be held at Point of Grace Ministries, 6892 Lake Ave., Elyria, OH 44035. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Brown-Robinson Funeral Home.
