Lois Jean (Robinson) Sledge, 90, transitioned peacefully in her sleep to her heavenly home the morning of October 19, 2026, at the home of her daughter in Columbus, Ohio.
Lois was born on July 13, 1936, in Lisbon, Arkansas, the fifth child of the late Ceasar and Winnie Pearl (Morris) Robinson. Lois was the last surviving sibling of a cherished Robinson lineage. With her passing, a remarkable chapter in the Robinson family’s history comes to a close. Yet, the rich legacy of love, cherished memories, and enduring family bonds established by the Robinsons will continue to live on through the lineage that follows. Lois was preceded in death by brothers, Marshall L. (Velma L.), Leonard A. (Florilla), Joseph W. (Elva J.), Timothy L. (Louise); and sister Lola Mae (Clifton Sr) Holiday.
At an early age, Lois confessed her faith in Christ and united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Arkansas. Shortly after graduating from New Hope High School in Mt. Holly, Arkansas, Lois relocated to Ohio following her brothers. Lois joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Elyria Ohio where she served on the Mother's Board in her later years.
During her first marriage, Lois was a stay-at-home mother until the passing of her daughters' father. She worked a variety of jobs until she began at the Lorain Neighborhood House Association. Lois started as a bus driver delivering meals to the elderly and worked up to the supervisor of the Meals On Wheels program through the Lorain Neighborhood House Association where she retired after 27 years of employment.
Lois had a special gift for cooking and baking and sharing her love through meals and desserts that brought family and friends together. She and Roy were especially known for their delicious cakes and pies, greens, neck bones and hot water bread. The warmth of her kitchen and the memories made around her table will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She also enjoyed watching ALL Cleveland sport teams play, Jeopardy and all things Family Feud in later years. Lois along with her (friennnnnnnnnnnd) Rosie Pope was known to be quite the competitive spades players calling themselves "The Untouchables."
Lois was united in holy matrimony to Roy W. Sledge, with whom she shared 34 years of marriage until his passing in December 2015. From her first marriage to Juneas Jones, who preceded her in death in 1974, Lois raised four daughters; Cynthia Jones (eldest) preceded her in death in 2002.
Lois will be lovingly missed by daughters Cassandra Jones (Columbus, OH), Barbara & Tony Grandison (Columbus, OH) and Sharon & Johnny Braden (Lorain, OH); stepdaughter, Anita "Peaches" Young, and stepson, Henry Neal (Cleveland, OH); grandson, Anthony Grandison ll (Columbus, OH), and step grandson, Michael & Tisha Ross (New York); granddaughters, Antonette & Taylor Bennett (Dublin, OH) and Arianna & Ben Peoples (Dublin, OH),and Rai'Von Braden (Cleveland), along with a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Family hour will be Monday, October 26, 2026, from 11AM until the start of her Homegoing service at 12 PM at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 632 West River Rd. N., Elyria Ohio 44035.
