Listen to Obituary

Lucille “Lucy” Raya Hopkins, 18, of Huron, passed away tragically in an automobile accident on Friday, March 6, 2026. Born on August 23, 2007, in Akron, Ohio, Lucy moved to Lorain and Erie counties at the age of 11, beginning fourth grade in the Vermilion school system. From the moment she arrived, her vibrant spirit, warm smile, and boundless energy made her unforgettable to everyone who crossed her path.

A 2025 graduate of Vermilion High School, Lucy was continuing her education at Lorain County Community College, where she was studying political science. She was also employed at Kingston of Vermilion as a State Tested Nursing Assistant, a role in which her compassion and kindness shone brightly.

Lucille was a bright, vibrant soul who lived her life with a kind heart, fearless spirit, and a love for everyone around her. She loved spending time with her friends—her “girlies”—encouraging them, lifting them up, and always showing up for anyone who needed support. Whether it was gymnastics, dancing, watching a beautiful sunset, getting lost in a good book, or listening to music, Lucille embraced life fully and joyfully.

She loved retail therapy days with her mom, debating just about anything, and standing up for what she believed in. Lucille was the type of person who would defend her friends—and even strangers—without hesitation. She was one of the biggest hype people you could ever meet, always empowering those around her to feel confident and strong. Stylish and expressive, she loved changing up her look and bringing her own unique flair wherever she went.

If you ever needed someone to believe in you, to hype you up, or to stand ten toes down beside you, Lucille was that girl. From the time she was a baby, all she had to do was smile and people were drawn to her. She had a way of making friends everywhere she went—young or old, it didn’t matter. Lucille simply had a light that people gravitated toward.

She was a hard worker, incredibly inspiring, and had a way of making everyone feel like they could accomplish anything. Smart, talented, and full of life, she was truly a light in dark places.

Her relationship with her mom was incredibly special. Lucille often called her mom her best friend. Whatever Lucy wanted to do, her mom was right there beside her. Lucy looked up to her deeply and often told her she was her hero—so many times that eventually her mom started to believe it.

Lucille loved spending time with her brothers. Whether they were making TikToks, watching their favorite shows, convincing them to let her do their makeup, or heading out on little adventures, she cherished those moments. If they ever needed a day off from school, big sister was usually the one brave enough to call mom—and somehow it often ended in a yes. She was smooth like that. She also loved spending time with her father, Tyler, and her brothers playing video games like Fortnite and Minecraft or watching shows together. Lucille was never afraid to debate her dad, and sometimes those debates could clear a room because she had no fear when it came to standing her ground and proving her point. Lucille loved hiking and going on adventures with her family. No matter where they went or what they were doing, she was always ready. She had the heart of a country girl who loved being outside and living life fully.

Lucille was truly one of a kind—kind, fearless, loyal, and full of life. She brought light, laughter, and strength to everyone who knew her. Her smile, her energy, and the love she gave so freely will never be forgotten.

Lucy leaves to cherish her memory her loving parents, her mom Robin and her father Tyler Brickman; other parents Ronald and Kaitlyn Hopkins; her two siblings, Jax, Thane and Eniya; her grandparents, Barbara Kuffler, Stephanie Carlson, Steve Carlson, Paul Brickman, and Kristen Brickman; her great grandparents Emmet Brand, and Janice Fry; her great aunt Kathy Miller; her aunts Janeen, Kaitlyn Lynett, Krisey, Taylor, Taryn, Tia, Catalina, and Jamie, her uncles Donny, Nicholas, Joseph, and Mort, her boyfriend, Charles Martin; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather (Papa) John Kuffler, her great uncle Herbert Miller, her namesake and grandmother Lucille Hopkins, her great grandmother Vivian Ann Needham, and cousin William Earl Brand.

There are so many in her life that might not be named but just know they are seen, loved, and added light to her.
