Manzie Lee Williams Jr. (Moondog), 66, of Lorain, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 in UH Elyria Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born February 20, 1957 in Lorain, and had been a lifelong resident.

Manzie graduated from Southview High School, class of 1976. He was an outstanding basketball player and Southview's basketball star player. He attended Mercyhurst College in Erie Pennsylvania. He worked at Admiral King High School as a Study Hall Monitor and a Detention Hall Monitor and was a Referee at basketball games.

He enjoyed going to the parks and the lake, playing pool, and liked watching all types of sports. Manzie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and playing Spades with his friends and making people laugh with his group called “The Brothers”. He also loved cooking and bragging on his ribs and loved watching westerns and the soap opera The Young and The Restless.

Manzie leaves to cherish his memory six children, Manzie (Alicia) Williams, Lee Williams, Crystal Williams, Charles (Jeanne Liane) Williams, Jordan Williams, and James Williams; three stepchildren, Calvin Congress, Daronte Malone, and Ronesha Malone; fifteen grandchildren; and his spouse, Dara Congress; two sisters, Sharon Swidecki, Deborah Williams, one brother, Dean Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Manzie was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Angeline Paige; his father, Manzie Lee Williams Sr.; a sister, Tanya Shumpert; four brothers, and ex-wife Janice Williams.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 12:00 PM at Living Word Church, 2002 E. 28th St., Lorain, OH. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
