Marie “Money” Wilson, 78, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 4, 1947, in Blakely, Georgia, Marie spent most of her life as a resident of Lorain. She worked as a cook and manager at Bob’s Big Boy and later as a manager at the Host Marriott. She retired from Aramark Foods with the Lorain City School System.
Marie was a devoted member of God’s Believers in Christ Church (formerly Compassion Baptist Church), where she served faithfully over the culinary department, sang in the choir, and led the usher board. She was well known in the community for her love of bowling and was a proud member of several local bowling teams. She also enjoyed playing softball. Above all, Marie loved learning and hearing God’s word and was deeply committed to Sunday School and Bible Study.
Marie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Wilson III; her son, Lee Lafayette Wilson of Parma, Ohio; and her daughter, Yolanda Marie Wilson of Brooklyn, Ohio. She leaves behind her grandsons, Xavier Lee Wilson of Parma Heights, Ohio, and Austin Lee Wilson of Oakland, California; her granddaughter, Shannon Carol Marie Wilson of Oakland, California; her brother, Charles Whitfield of Sandusky, Ohio; and her sisters, Theresa Whitfield and Sheran Whitfield, both of Lorain, and Mary (Richard) Fluker of Canton, Mississippi, and Andre Lean Gage of Lorain, Ohio.
She is also survived by her brothers in law James Murry of Bowie, Maryland; Johnnie (Helen) Wilson of Springfield, Virginia; Eugene (Rose) Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia; Wayne (Adrienne) Wilson of Austin, Texas; Craig (Susan) Wilson of Richmond Heights, Ohio; and Freddy (Pilar) Wilson of Houston, Texas; and her sisters in law Beverly (Evan) Epps of Atlanta, Georgia; Audrey Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia; and Rosemary (William) Bellamy of Quantico, Virginia. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other loving relatives.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Vinster Whitfield; her brothers Johnnie B. Whitfield and Henry Whitfield; her sisters Anna Whitfield, Lendia Whitfield, and Debra Beauford; her in laws Thomas and Glady Wilson, Paul Wilson, Deborah McLilly; and Geneva Murry, as well as four nephews and four nieces.
Family visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 10:30 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at God’s Believers in Christ Church, 520 West 22nd Street, Lorain, OH 44052. Reverend James L Williams, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
