Minnie E Taylor

Minnie E. Taylor, 70, of Lorain, Ohio, peacefully departed this earthly life to join her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 30, 2026. Born on December 30, 1955, in Elyria, Ohio, to the late James and Mary Metcalf, Minnie lived a life defined by extraordinary grace, selfless service, and boundlessly deep devotion to her family and faith.

An accomplished academic, Minnie possessed a lifelong passion for education and self-improvement. She earned her Associate Degree from Lorain County Community College (LCCC), went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree from Baldwin Wallace University, and achieved a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Cleveland State University.

Her dedication to knowledge and empowerment enriched her distinguished career in public service. She served as the Executive Director of the Volunteer Action Center and as the County Director/Youth Development leader for the Ohio State University (OSU) 4-H Lorain County Extension. A proud participant in Leadership Lorain County, she also dedicated her time to the Lorain County Alliance of Black School Educators (LCABSE) and served on the board of Next Level Images.

Minnie’s life was a vibrant testament to her faith and love for Jesus Christ. As a founding member and original Deaconess of Greater Victory Christian Ministries (GVCM), she poured her heart into her church community. She served faithfully on the Usher’s Board, was instrumental in establishing the GVCM food pantry to feed those in need, and was a proud member of the Lorain County Usher’s Union. Her spirit of service extended far into the broader community through her leadership with the National Saints of Light Foundation, the National Association of Education, and the Negro Business and Professional Women’s Organization.

To know Minnie was to experience true warmth and generosity. One of the undisputed master cooks of the family, she took immense joy in bringing people together around the table—especially during her legendary Thanksgiving dinners. Her kitchen was always filled with love, laughter, and incredible food. Above all, Minnie cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. Her fierce, unconditional love for her children and grandchildren was a guiding light, and she treasured every moment spent traveling and creating memories with her loved ones.

Minnie’s profound love and legacy will be forever cherished by her loving children, Douglas Dequae Taylor Sr. (Carmen) and Damesha Marie Yontz (Jason). She will be deeply missed by her siblings, John L. Metcalf (Bonnie) of Canton, Ohio, Larry D. Metcalf and Ronnie L. Metcalf, both of Lorain, Ohio, Kimberly Metcalf Peoples (Darrel) of Louisville, Kentucky, and LaSonya Metcalf Bailey of Columbus, Ohio. Her memory remains a constant blessing to her extended family, including her special uncle Earl Cummings, special cousin Dr. Jerome M. Davis, as well as Tammy Davis, Carla Moore, Alunda Riggins, and Dax Comer; special friends: Sydney Lancaster, Barbara Ballard, and Sandra Ballard. She also leaves behind to honor her memory her adoring grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of loving relatives and lifelong friends. Minnie was preceded in death and is now reunited in heavenly peace with her loving husband, Douglas M. Taylor; her parents, James and Mary Metcalf; her brother, James Earl Metcalf; sister Emma Jane Williamson; and her cherished grandson, Dale “DJ” Hahn, Jr.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10AM until time of Celebration of Life service at 11AM at Faith Ministries/Greater Victory, 1306 Euclid Ave, Lorain OH. Interment will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.
