Oscar D "Big O" Hill Sr

Oscar D. Hill Sr., "Big O”, 67, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 19, 2024, at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain.  

Oscar was born November 5, 1956, in Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School in 1976. He was very proud of his 34-year career with the Lorain City School District, during which time he was a member of the Local 103, Sheet Metal Workers Union. In 2008, he decided to take an early retirement to spend more time doing the things he loved, which included being with family, cooking, watching westerns and other classic TV shows, and being a devout member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a devoted sports fan, pledging his everlasting loyalty to the Cleveland Browns, Cavs, The Guardians, and Ohio State.  

Oscar is survived by his wife Miriam "Mogi" Hill; son, Oscar Hill Jr. and daughter, Myra Hill, both of Lorain; three grandsons, Oscar Hill III, Jayden Hill, and Jordyn Kimbrough, all of Lorain; a sister, Cecilia Hill, of Detroit MI; a niece, Diedre Hill, of Cleveland OH, and nephews, Derrick Hill, of Lorain, Dwayne, Lucas, Yuri, and Darius Hill, all of Detroit MI; in addition to numerous cousins and other loving relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Hill Sr. and Clemmie Hill; brothers, Lonnie Hill Jr. and Miles Hill, and sisters, Tressa Hill and Lydia Hill.

Oscar will always be remembered as a man with a big heart. He was a kind, gentle, loving, genuine, and patient man, who put family first. He had the gift of gab and no matter where he went, he would always make time to catch up with an old friend or make a new one.

A viewing will be held Friday, January 26, 2024, from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3900 Clifton Ave, Lorain OH 44055. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
