Rachel Ruth Goodwin (Taylor), 81, transitioned from this life on Monday, January 5, 2026 following a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Rachel was born on May 3, 1944 in West Virginia and migrated to Lorain, Ohio with her family in 1954. She was the 12th of her parents' 16 beautiful children. She attended Clearview schools, later earned her GED, and graduated from LCCC with a degree in Early Childhood Education. During her time there, she was a founding member and also served as President of her local SEIU 1199 chapter.
At a young age, Rachel gave her life to Christ and has been a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church since moving to Lorain. She served both as a Pastor’s Aide and on the Mother’s Board while remaining active in the women’s ministry. She most enjoyed teaching, spreading the love of God, and spending time with her family.
Rachel leaves to cherish her memory her four beloved children Kathryn Carson of Columbus, Ohio, Jacqueline Goodwin, Grover Goodwin Jr., and Delibra (Dimitrius) Lovett, all of Lorain, her siblings Leonard (Joyce) Taylor and Velma Kimbro of Elyria, Ohio and Harold Taylor of Minnesota, special son Andre Thomas of Columbus, Ohio, special niece Yolanda Kimbro of Sandusky, Ohio, special nephew James “Cat Daddy” Simmons of Lorain, Ohio, 10 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
