Shirley D. Grissom, 81, of Elyria, Ohio, answered her Lord’s call on March 27, 2026.
She was born on June 14, 1944, in Kemp, Texas. She was the daughter of Jim and Lela Jones and one of nine children. At an early age, she moved to Dallas, Texas, and joined St. Matthew Baptist Church, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963, married L.C. Grissom on February 18, 1967, and moved to Elyria, Ohio.
Mrs. Grissom held various occupations, and after 15 years as a supervisor, she retired from Bonnie Bell Cosmetics. As a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for over 50 years, she served on multiple committees and programs. As a community pillar, she was a dedicated member of local charitable organizations, holding prestigious positions, including Worthy Matron of Martha Chapter 25 of the Order of Eastern Stars and Commandress of Al Lalim Court No. 25 of the Daughters of Isis. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, and cooking.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her children, Michael (Michelle) Grissom, L.C. (Anita) Grissom, Volinda A. Grissom, and Nancy (Cleveland) Coleman. Her grandchildren are Trinisha Freeman, Michael Butler, Larry Grissom, Darius Butler, Latoya Champe, Justine Barnett, Brandon Barnett, Sharee Grissom, Michael Grissom Jr, Marcus Vicens, Diamond Grissom, Shaneece (Marcus) Williams, Lela McNeil, Layla McNeil, and twenty-three great-grandchildren, one sister, Jeffrie Ann Crockett, and two nephews, Kenneth Jones and Sylvestor Cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Grissom; her parents, Jim and Lela Jones; her sisters, Jimmie Jones, Willene Jones, and Maurine Jones; her brothers, Hobert Jones, Curtis Jones, Nolan Jones, and Gilbert Jones; and daughters Zina B. Butler and Roberta L. Barnett.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 9:00 AM until time of service at 9:30 AM at Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria Ohio, where Pastor Dr. Carl P. Small will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery.
