Stanle' E. Riley

Stanle' E. (Stan the Man) Riley, 69 of Lorain, OH passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022, following a lengthy illness. He was born Saturday, February 21, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio. He moved to Lorain, Ohio at the age of thirteen in 1966.During his teenage years he was an Eagle Scout (Troop Number 341) and received an award from Junior Achievement for Top Sales. He began working at a very young age in fact he was one of the top delivery boys for The Cleveland Plain Dealer. He didn t stop there, he worked at Thomas Shoe Repair where he fixed and shined shoes. He always told his boys he had obtained four jobs by the age of twelve. He would always go clean up at the Barber Shop on 8th Street in Lorain. He then worked for the Jewish Temple where he helped set up for their bar mitzvahs and other parties. In his junior year of High School, he obtained a job in Display Advertising at The Lorain Journal and remained there for three and a half years.He was a 1971 Graduate of Admiral King High School. While still being employed at The Lorain Journal, he then attended Lorain County Community College and transferred to Cleveland State University and ended at Control Data Institute (CDI).He gained employment with Ford Motor Company Lorain Assembly Plant on July 13, 1972. Throughout his years of employment at Ford he graduated from their Skills Trade Electrical Apprenticeship Program and became an Electrician in February 1994. He then worked at Ford United Auto Workers (UAW)/Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) Program as a coordinator for skilled trades and he graduated from the Ford Statistical Process Control (SPC) Program. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 2006 after 34 years of service. He also held various security jobs in the Cleveland and Sandusky areas.Stanle' always remained active. He was a member of the Black AC s, he played basketball, racquetball, softball, football, ping pong and he won two National Bid Whist Championships. In fact, every sport that he ever played he achieved championship status. He was a Historically Black College (HBC) supporter, and he enjoyed African/Asian Global artifacts. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Indians. His greatest joy in life was watching his grandsons compete on the basketball team for his old alma mater Admiral King High School.He supported many local organizations such as the Stop the Violence Movement, the American Organization, the Boys and Girls Club and the Summer Olympics for kids organized by Tyrone Smith. He was also an avid supporter for several years of Councilwoman JoAnn Moon where he often chaperoned in taking local kids to the Universal Soul Circus.In his spare time of his adult life, he LOVED laminating copies of sports stories for local athletes, articles for local businesses in town and supplying obituaries for the families of those he knew and/or those he worked with throughout the years.He was very active as Independent Distributors\/Directors in multi-level marketing companies such as DRI WASH n GUARD (DWG) International, ENVIRO-TECH INTERNATIONAL and 5Linx. He was also a founding member of S.T.A.N.D. Society. He was well read. He enjoyed studying various religions and cultures. He was trained in various Martial Arts programs, and he was well known in the local gyms. He loved keeping fit by working out daily at Scandinavian Health Spa, Bally s, and Planet Fitness. He thoroughly enjoyed the comradery in working out. He was very athletic until he lost his lifelong training partner Ronald Kelly from the COVID-19 virus in November of 2020.His family and friends will fondly remember him most for the kindness and generosity he gave to everyone. He always loved being there for anyone who needed assistance at any given time.Stanle's memory will forever be cherished by his wife and companion of 34 years Jeanette Willis of Lorain, OH; his two sons Malcolm Barnett of Lorain, OH and Nero Barnett of Columbus, OH; his nine grandchildren: Malcolm, DiNazJan, Nia, Nya, Leaja, Nalae and Niyona Barnett; and Devon and Da viere Andrews; his sister Valerie Dillard, his two nieces and two nephews, his cousins, his many god children, his great nieces and nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.Stanle' was preceded in death by his parents William Edward Barnett and Lois Audrey (nee Riley) Barnett; his brother Maurice E. Barnett and his maternal grandparents Arthur W. Riley and Lillian (Black) Riley.Friends may call Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Living Word Church 2002 East 28th Street in Lorain. A celebration of Life will take place there on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at 12:00 pm.
