Susan Ball, 70, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2025, at the Cleveland Clinic in Avon. Born on July 24, 1955, in Elyria, Ohio, she was the beloved daughter of the late Wiley Ball Sr. and Ethel (née Parker) Ball. Susan was a lifelong resident of Lorain County and a cherished member of her community.
A woman of deep faith, Susan was a devoted member of God’s Believers in Christ Church in Lorain, Ohio. She found joy in cooking healthy meals, spending time with her family, and sharing her love of life through activities such as fishing, traveling, and hosting family Bible studies and tea parties. She also enjoyed playing games like backgammon, acey-deucey, and greedy, and was known for her fondness for playing on and giving lottery numbers.
Susan was a natural counselor and confidante, offering wisdom and compassion to friends, family, and anyone in need. Her nurturing spirit and generous heart touched countless lives.
She is survived by her three children: Lydia Ball, James Atkinson III, and Shannet Atkinson (née Weatherspoon); 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her loving companion of 26 years, Garry Davis, and her dearest friends, Catherine Jenkins and Denise Ammons, whom she considered sisters and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley Ball Sr. and Ethel (née Parker) Ball; her sisters: Odessa Lee, Ethel Evelyn Johnson, and Bernice Cofield; and her brothers: Charles Ball, Floyd Ball, Robert Ball, Wiley Ball Jr., and Thomas Ball.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at God’s Believers in Christ Church, located at 520 W. 22nd Street in Lorain, Ohio. Reverend James Williams, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Brookdale Cemetery.
Susan will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love of family, and her joyful, giving spirit. Her legacy of kindness and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
