Theodore Mastin, 85, of Lorain, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 25, 2024, following a brief illness. He was born January 12, 1939, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and had lived in Lorain for over 60 years.
Theodore attended grade school and graduated from Howard High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He retired from the Lorain Ford plant after 35 years of service. He formerly played softball with the Black Athletic Club (the Black ACs).
Ted, as he was affectionately called, enjoyed playing cards and was an avid sports fan. He loved watching westerns, and spending time with his family. He was a great storyteller, hilariously funny, and an avid sports fan. Ted was also a guide, confidant and sounding board to many young men.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Trina Mastin (née Jackson); his children, Chandra Tucker, Michael Mastin Sr., Sherry Mastin, and Tiffany (Corey) Prather; his stepchildren, Darel Jackson, Tirell Allen, and Laurence Bates; one brother, Arthur (Jennifer) Mastin, godchildren, Jamaal Burris, Larry Baker Jr., and Isaac Johnson; 22 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Mastin and Lucille Harris; his brothers, James (Bubba) Mastin, Raymond Mastin, Harold Mastin, Charles Mastin Sr., Irvin "Nick" Mastin, and Fred Phillips; and his sisters, Dorothy Mae Williams and Beverly Norwood.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Friendship Baptist Church, 2160 Reeves Ave, Lorain OH, from 10AM until the time of his funeral service at 11AM. His burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
