Thurston Virgil Henderson, 72, affectionately known as “Squeek” to many and “Bill” to others, passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 7, 2024, at O’Neill Healthcare. Born on December 22, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Mary Love and Joseph B. Henderson Sr., Thurston was a lifelong resident of Lorain, Ohio, where he built a life of remarkable achievements and lasting relationships.
A man of ambition and vision, Thurston carved out a successful career as an entrepreneur and real estate investor. His achievements were matched only by his dedication to his family. He was a devoted husband to Bernice Henderson, his partner of 50 years, and a loving father and grandfather. His family was his greatest pride, and his love for them was evident in everything he did.
Thurston’s passions were as vibrant as his personality. He had a keen eye for luxury cars and jewelry, and he relished every opportunity to travel and explore new places. His love for his dogs and the joy he found in visiting relatives spoke to his generous and open-hearted nature. Conversations with Thurston were always filled with his signature blend of wisdom and storytelling, often long-winded but always engaging.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bernice Henderson; his daughters, Fallon, Desmarie, Breanna, and Kendall (all of Lorain); his sons, Michael (Florida), Andrew, William, and Josiah (all of Lorain), Jayvier Keuth (Columbus), and Alexander (Cincinnati); and his cherished grandchildren, Dyamond, Dontaye Jr., Dalani, and Dinero (all of Lorain), and Aiden and Adrienne (Florida). He is also remembered by his sisters, Rayner B. Henderson-Ende and Wanda K. Henderson (both of Columbus, OH), and his brother, Terrance “Terry” Henderson (of Lorain), along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Thurston was preceded in death by his son William Henderson; his parents, Mary Love and Joseph B. Henderson Sr.; his brother Joseph B. Henderson Jr.; his sisters Marion Richard (Earl) and Marlean Henderson-Gage; and his best friend Abdullalleem Rasheed. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to inspire and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A viewing will be held on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, from 6–8 PM at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home & Celebration Center 6075 Middle Ridge Road, Lorain, OH, 44053, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, at 11 AM. The interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
