Willie Lavon McCarty

Willie Lavon McCarty, 67, peacefully entered eternal rest on July 2, 2024, surrounded by his wife and loved ones at his residence. Born on July 5, 1956, in Waynesboro, MS, he was the son of the late Mr. Willie "Dr. BB" McCarty and Mrs. Elouis Russell. Bo graduated from Sandusky High School in 1976 and served in the Army from June 22, 1976, to May 31, 1983.

Throughout his life, Bo held various jobs and was notably the founder of Shining Waters INC in Sandusky, Ohio. This organization hosted numerous powwows downtown of Sandusky, Ohio where Bo was known for crafting his own regalia. Many recognized him as the Medicine Man or Chief. Whether he was meticulously working on cars in his front yard or tending to his community garden or strolling the city in his full Native regalia praying for the city, Willie was a familiar figure in his neighborhood.

Willie found joy in fishing, listening to Native American music, and most of all, spending cherished moments with his grandchildren and the children of his community. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and his infectious smile and laughter will forever be remembered.

Willie will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 23 years, Carla Kent-McCarty. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his children: Joseph (Deanna) McCarty of Sandusky, OH; Treymane (Melat) McCarty of Aldie, VA; Hiram Shamir McCarty of Fresno, CA; twin boys Quency & Isaac McCarty of Newark, OH; Colten McCarty of Newark, OH; and Alphonso Lewis of Sandusky, OH. His daughters Nakosha Farris of Sandusky, OH, and Chanece Lewis of Harrisburg, PA, also hold dear memories of their father.

Willie's siblings, Kimely (Curtiss) Samuel of Sweetwater, AL; Carla McCarty of Cincinnati, OH; Audrey (Ricky) Samuel of Manado, Indonesia; Giovahna Darden of Sandusky, OH; Patricia Sims of Jacksonville, FL; Jimmy (Sharon) McCarty of Kokomo, IN; Wayne (Birdia) McCarty of Sandusky, OH; Larry McCarty; Norbert Sims; Allen Sims; Timothy (Reuben) Sims; Zachary Sims, all of Jacksonville, FL; Neil (Myra) McCarty of Mebane, NC; Donald (Margie) Sims of Mobile, AL; along with sister-in-law Lysandra Kent and brother-in-law Curtiss Kent of Sandusky, OH, deeply mourn his passing.

His memory will be cherished by a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie McCarty & Elouis Russell, daughter Stephanie Dawn McCarty, brothers Lawrence Edward McCarty and Samuel Allen McCarty, father and mother in-law Carl Brown and Deloris Kent.
